Exploring the Potential of Hybrid Structures for Sustainable Construction
Hybrid construction is novel or unusual merging of structural materials and structural elements providing an overall performance superior to the sum of its components, there by going substantially beyond traditional and conventional composite structures. Innovative structural engineering solutions combine different materials, construction detailing and smart construction processes and techniques in a way that offers the most effective answer to fulfilling specific performance criteria and to supporting the objectives of sustainability in construction.
The workshop’s objective is to explore and demonstrate the potential of hybrid structures for more sustainable construction of buildings.
It covers the following themes:
-
Conceptual design
-
Materials
-
Analysis and design
-
Management Processes
-
Sustainability Aspects
The workshop will be held in the form of keynote lecture sessions, plenary sessions with invited lectures and short presentations, and poster discussions. More detailed information on the topics per theme, the tentative schedule, the Scientific Committee and other issues can be found on the workshop website www.iabse.org/hybrid2014.
